Mind Over Movement

“How might we use design to highlight the benefits of dance while addressing the challenges and pressures adolescents face in the competitive dance world?”

For my final project at the UofA, I chose to study competitive dance because it has played such an influential role in my upbringing. I continue to work at my childhood dance studio with my mom while I am home, and I love watching the little girls grow up to be wise, graceful dancers.

I decided to curate an interactive workbook for competitive dancers to maintain schedules, start conversation, and receive tips and tricks on how to better navigate competitive dancing.

Through my extensive research, I noticed 4 main problems:

I used these themes to organize the workbook into sections for the dancer to focus on. Each section included 20 days of prompts to direct their intention on their mental well-being.
